Student Flat Kitchen != Pigsty

(Linked from Facebook)

I know I live in a student flat, I can expect a bit of mess, but I don’t fancy being in a pigsty. Bit of mess being a fair bit of post-it notes floating about on the table/floor, a few empty glasses floating about (it happens), and potentially a few other things, as well as one or two empty mugs + cutlery (it’s not exactly economical to wash up one mug).

However, some of the mess in the flat, especially the washing up bit is a bit.. pathetic. One excuse I’ve had (not naming names) was it’s a student flat, mess isn’t going to go away. I wasn’t impressed just now having to empty a cold sink with tomato sauce floating, and then unblock it because a paper towel is stuck while everyone else bar one was watching a film.

Now I do try to do my bit. If I’ve left something to be washed properly, it’s usually a mug or something small that isn’t that dirty such as a fork which had just been used for pot noodles or tea spoon. As long as it’s not covered in gunk and isn’t lying around, surely that can be coped with.

While I’m on the subject, am I the only one who seems to empty the bins and recycling?! I’ve not seen anyone else do it. I’ve also seen a bin bag hanging on a chair when the bin was full. Superb isn’t it.

And just to emphasize the point, look at my room. Tidy!

Rant over. In short, how’s about tidy up?!

Cable Heaven

I’ve been asked to clean up my room and bin/sell/remove junk I don’t use or need. Starting with my desk, which is just clutter. I don’t have a picture of it, but it was just cables, CDs, books, post-it notes and revision material floating around everywhere, and if you looked hard you could find my XBOX 360 controller and the keyboard and mouse for the Dell.

Took everything off the desk, removed the computers and console and speakers and anything else, moved the desk out, nice nice mess of tangled cables.

Took about half an hour to sort out and untangle the cables, and about an hour to put them back together while cable tying them together, in-between vacuuming the carpet and dust and cleaning the table. Takes another twenty minutes to figure out why the speakers weren’t working (I need to label them), and then some success.

Looks a lot tidier. Now it’s going through the drawers and cupboards chucking out junk I don’t need or want101_0499

Windows Installer CleanUp Utility

winstallcleanup1Trying to update iTunes today, and it was moaning it can’t find itunes64.msi in /Local/Temp/IX0001SA/ or something like that. As a result, I couldn’t remove iTunes, update iTunes, repair iTunes just because that file was missing. Lovely.

Trawl through the internet for assistance, Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. This program doesn’t just remove the program from the list of programs installed, it removes the Windows Installer information with it. Once that information has gone, just install iTunes again, and everyone’s happy.

If only iTunes would work now….
