After one year and one week, my placement in Bracknell is about to come to an end. Finally!

Not in a “I hated the job” kind of way, in a “I can relax and go back and enjoy the latter part of uni” way.

I know it sounds all clichéd by saying the generic sort of thing like “I really enjoyed my placement, I learnt a lot from it and I am a better person”, but that’s the honest truth on the matter. For the most part of it, I did enjoy the work, I got on well with everyone in the office and I leave with a sense of achievement. I leave knowing the work I’ve done on the internal testing tool (that basically became my ‘project’) is left in a good condition that is useful to the whole team and potentially others as well. I also genuinely feel more confident doing programming in C and C++ now, and have picked up some handy tips and ideas on the way.

However, I’m worn out and want to go back home to Bristol. I miss everyone from uni, I miss uni life, in some respects I miss my old job back at the SU. That’s quite convenient as I’ve got my old job back and I’m starting again next Tuesday. No rest for me it seems.

I’ve had quite enough of Bracknell as well (aka, Hell if you believe Hugh Dennis’ quote from Mock The Week, or the fourth dullest town in the UK). It’s nothing special, and I spent most of my weekends outside of the town (either in Bristol or some random place). So I can’t say I’m sad to see the back of the place.

All in all, it’s time to move on.

I’ll miss the paychecks though.
